About
Charlie Saul, Award Winning Wood Turner
Charlie’s entire career and hobbies were formed from an early relationship and lifelong fascination with wood.
Seven year-old Charlie was whittling tikis and switch-blade knives.
Ten year-old Charlie was designing,
building and selling planter boxes from a little red wagon.
Twelve year-old Charlie was designing and building decks and benches.
Sixteen year-old Charlie was hired by the
senior class to design and build their gift to the school, all the while Charlie never took a shop class.
Eighteen and nineteen year-old Charlie designed and built his first mega home.
Twenty-one year-old Charlie became a Licensed General Contractor.
And so it went for the next 30 years.
Charlie retired from hands-on building homes for clients.
After a time, Charlie became a construction consultant to owners, builders, architects and attorneys.
And so it went for the next 15 years.
Charlie, began his turning adventure Thanksgiving 2014 tasked with the repair of a chair spindle; caught the bug, and got quite a lot of nice work off a $106 Harbor Freight lathe.
Charlie joined the turning community and began turning timber. Embellishing otherwise plain woods rekindled his original fascination with carving. Charlie is a proud member of AAW, BAWA and
Wine Country Woodturners.
